Channel 4’s 2022 comedy Hullraisers — adapted from the popular Israeli show Little Mom — follows the lives of three women as they try to enjoy their lives, while balancing family life and career.

Sinead Matthews plays one of the main cast members, Paula, alongside Leah Brotherhead as Toni and Taj Atwal as Rana.

Her character, Paula, is Toni’s self-deprecating, homely, matriarchal older sister, who is married to her childhood sweetheart Dane (Rana’s brother). She is portrayed as the polar opposite of Toni—never imagining herself anywhere but Hull. Unsurprisingly, she disapproves of Rana’s irresponsibility, and cannot understand Toni’s instability and constant need for more.

But Toni’s sense of humour is what makes the show so enjoyable. Maybe over time she’ll learn to let go a little and finally move out of Hull?
