Capture the plot
In a quaint coastal town, local fisherman Ed Collier finds himself struggling to make ends meet as he faces stiff competition from other fishermen. Life takes an unexpected turn when his daughter Abby introduces her new boyfriend Ryan to the family.
At first glance, Ryan seemed to be everything his parents could want him to be—young, handsome, wealthy, and successful. However, Ed’s instincts raise doubts and he can’t shake the feeling that there might be more to Ryan than meets the eye.
His wife, Claire, is very understanding of Ed’s protective nature, considering the heartbreaking loss of their son in a tragic boating accident fifteen years ago. Despite her repeated assurances, Ed remains uneasy about Ryan’s intentions and begins investigating his background. To his surprise, he digs up Ryan’s past with the help of Abby’s ex-boyfriend George.
When they uncover shocking details about Ryan’s history, their investigation takes them down a disturbing path. Worried about his daughter’s health, Ed decided to discreetly follow Ryan, and to his shock, he filmed Ryan’s crime with a young woman in the red-light district. Armed with this evidence, Ed confronts Ryan in front of his own family, hoping to protect Abby from potential harm.
However, to Ed’s dismay, Ryan calmly gave an explanation that successfully convinced the family. Questions are raised about Ed’s judgment and tensions rise within the family. As Ed struggles to maintain his position, he finds himself isolated and fired, leaving him to face this crisis alone.
As if the situation wasn’t already dark, things take a sinister turn when an ominous and threatening message appears on the deck of Ed’s beloved fishing boat. Fearing for his family’s safety and unable to believe the words of the charismatic Ryan, Ed realizes he must delve deeper into the mystery surrounding his daughter’s boyfriend in order to protect his family from potential danger.
Capture ending explained
The story revolves around Ryan, whose real name is Carl and the son of Nicholas Baxter, a former Navy colleague of Ed’s who sadly passed away. The death of Ryan’s father occurred during an incident involving Ed, Craig and friends from their friendship group. They inadvertently caused Baxter’s death while drunk and decided to torture him, leading to a fatal accident in which Baxter fell into the water and drowned.
To conceal their involvement, Ed and his friends placed cocaine under Baxter’s bed to make it look like he died of drug addiction. Ryan lost his father when he was four, and his mother died a few years later from a suicide involving sleeping pills and alcohol.
Later, another member of the group, Des, writes to Ryan revealing the truth about his father’s death. This discovery triggers Ryan’s desire for revenge, leading him to kill Craig, Arthur, and George in revenge. As he was about to kill Ed, Abby, who was dating George, intervened and stabbed Ryan, saving Ed’s life.
Finally, it was revealed that Abby was pregnant with Ryan’s child, but it was not certain if she had told her parents about the pregnancy. Despite his mother’s calm demeanor, Ed noticed Abby’s subtle belly caresses, hinting at potential trouble ahead. The play ends with a lingering sense of unease and uncertainty about the future.
