Meet William Lagioia, Lori Vallow’s Ex-Husband and Colby Ryan’s Father

William Lagioia was one of five husbands (more accurately, the second husband) of the infamous “doomsday mom” Lori Vallow. After their first marriage ended, Lori moved in with William Lagioia in Texas in 1995. They were reportedly married on October 22, 1995. They had lived together unmarried in Austin, Texas for 4 years before getting married.

The couple welcomed their son Colby Jordan Ryan on April 8, 1996, but were separated at the time because William was in prison for assault and battery. They rekindled their relationship after their son was born because Lori wanted to have a complete family. However, Lori and William divorced in February 1998.

According to her eldest son, Colby, she and William actually “had a terrible relationship. She didn’t want me in that relationship and basically took me away and got me out of that situation.”

“Throughout our on-again, off-again relationship, William Lagioia (my boyfriend at the time) was mentally and physically abusive to me,” Lori said. “On two separate occasions, I called the police and had him arrested for assault and battery. We separated in February 1996, due to this abuse.”

She added, “In July 1996, my husband William LaGioiaa called me and asked me to come to Brackettville, Texas (where he was living with his parents) to attend his family’s baptism into my church. Throughout our relationship, I had prayed that he would accept my religion, repent of his carnal, selfish, and lustful behavior, and become a Christian. He told me that the breakup had caused him to rethink things and that he had studied with missionaries and wanted to change his life and accept God and had received marriage counseling and psychotherapy.”

In the complaint, Lori also accused William of “knowingly and intentionally conspiring to defraud me into quitting my job (where I earned approximately $45,000 per year) to come live with him and his parents in Brackettville, where he would work and take care of us, pay for our car, and all of our household bills.”

However, according to Lori, William resumed his old lifestyle after the couple moved in together. Lori wrote, “I was very upset that William took possession of and kept my car (he never paid a dime of any of the payments) and drove it for personal and recreational purposes. He would not let me drive my car. Every time I wanted to leave and go back to Austin, my husband would fight with me and keep the car keys away from me. He kept me locked in his house.”

However, she was able to sneak away one night after William and his family were asleep. She moved into his family home in San Antonio, Texas. He asked for forgiveness and allegedly promised, “If things don’t work out, I’m free to leave and take my car and my possessions.”
