Raj played a vital role in guiding Ishan’s early cricket journey. Although he was a mischievous child, Kishan’s talent for playing cricket was evident from an early age.
He studied at Delhi Public School (DPS) in Patna and later studied at Commerce College, Patna. Due to registration issues between the Bihar Cricket Association and the BCCI, Kishan had to play for Jharkhand in domestic cricket, a move that shaped his early cricketing career. His ethnicity originates from the Bhumihar Brahmin community and he is Hindu.

Argumentative
Ishan Kishan has been at the center of several controversies over the years. In 2016, he was involved in a car accident in Patna.
Reports suggest that he or his father, while driving, hit an auto-rickshaw, injuring a woman. After the accident, a fight broke out between Kishan, his father and some locals, resulting in both being scuffled by the crowd. Though the police reached the spot, the matter was resolved amicably and no FIR was filed.
Another notable controversy occurred in 2023 when Kishan refused to participate in the Duleep Trophy, an important domestic tournament despite being selected.

Although the Sri Lankan team did not appeal, fans are still divided on whether Kishan deserved a penalty or not.
