Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke was born in Enugu, Enugu State, Nigeria on January 15, 1955. His parents are Senator Ayoola Adeleke and Esther Adeleke and he has a sibling named Adedeji Adeleke.
Adeleke started his primary education at Christ Church School in Enugu before moving to Ibadan. He later completed his secondary education at Ogbomoso Grammar School. Academically, Adeleke holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Masters in Public Administration.

Adeleke is a well-known Nigerian politician. He is a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the dominant political party in Osun State. In 1992, he was elected as the first civilian governor of Osun State.
As governor, Adeleke took some major decisions such as the establishment of a polytechnic in Yiri, a technical college in Esa-Oke and the completion of the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation.
Adeleke changed his political affiliation after the collapse of the republic in 1994. He joined the opposition group Afenifere and later the Nigeria Democratic Party, a new party backed by fellow Sani Abacha members.
Adeleke was elected as the senator for Oshun West in 2007. He has served on several Senate committees, including the Upstream Petroleum Resources Committee, the Integration and Cooperation Committee, the Housing Committee, and the Air Force Committee.
