Career
Ivara was born on 4 August 1967. He attended the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he obtained a medical degree in 1989.
After graduating, he joined the university’s teaching hospital, where he worked for two years. He then moved to the United States.
He completed his postgraduate training at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) in 1995. So he joined the school and started working as one of the 110 Family Medicine specialists.
Dr. Ivara also holds the position of Clinical Associate Professor of Family and Community Medicine at the institute.
In 2009, he was certified in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine.
Personal life.
Dr. Ivara Esege is married to the famous novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. They got married in 2009. Their marriage has been blessed with one child, a daughter who was born in 2016. They live in Baltimore, Maryland, USA.
He is very supportive of his wife’s career, especially her feminist activism. In 2017, they both participated in the Women’s March in Washington DC.
The 57-year-old’s parents and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s parents were close friends and that’s how they met.
