Early life and education

Iyabo Ojo, an acclaimed Nigerian actress, director and film producer, was born Alice Iyabo Ogunro on December 21, 1977, in the vibrant city of Lagos, Nigeria. She was raised by her loving parents, Olubunmi Fetuga and Adekunle Ogunro, along with her older brother Babalola Ojo.

After completing primary education at National College In Gbagbada, Lagos, Iyabo Ojo pursued his academic journey by pursuing a degree in real estate management at the prestigious school Lagos State Polytechnic.

Iyabo Ojo was born to an Ogun father in Lagos State and attended Gbagbada National College in Lagos before intending to study real estate management at Lagos Polytechnic Institute.

After joining a drama group in high school, she began her acting career in 1998. Describing her beginnings, she said: “So when I was older, I went to Bimbo Akintola, after watching one of her movies… And advised her that I wanted to be an actor and she helped me. Through her guidance, I registered with the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) and after that, she took me around, introduced me to a lot of people she knew in the industry.”

Ojo has written and appeared in several Nigerian films. Her first role was in the 1998 English-language film Satanic. In 2002, she made her Yoruba-language film debut with Baba Darijinwon. In January 2015, her film Silence, starring Joseph Benjamin, Alex Usifo, Faithia Balogun and Doris Simeon, premiered at Silverbird Cinemas, Ikeja, Lagos.
