New Mexico authorities report that Tito Jackson suffered a sudden medical emergency while driving in his final moments, leading to his death on Sunday.
Tito, known as a member of The Jackson 5 and the brother of Michael and Janet Jackson, has been actively performing with his brothers in recent months.
According to law enforcement officials speaking to the Daily Mail on Monday, a concerned individual saw Jackson’s distress at around 6 p.m. while he was traveling from New Mexico to Oklahoma, where he had recently moved.
Upon arriving at the American Heritage Plaza shopping center, the driver successfully attracted the attention of nearby police. It appeared that Jackson had stopped in that particular area.
The performer was rushed to hospital by ambulance but died a few hours later.
Steve Manning, Jackson’s former manager, told Entertainment Tonight that the musician suffered a heart attack during a cross-state trip. However, this claim has not been independently verified.
To date, no autopsy has been performed to confirm Jackson’s cause of death. The official cause has not been released and the investigation is ongoing.
Investigators continue to interview witnesses and analyze both physical and electronic evidence.
Before his death, Jackson performed with his brothers, Jackie and Marlon Jackson, as part of The Jacksons. Their recent performances include shows in Scotland, California, and the United Kingdom.
Their most recent show was on September 8 in Surrey, England, and they are scheduled to perform on October 25 in Atlantic City, New Jersey and November 1 in Cincinnati.
