WEBSITE DESCRIPTION: James Gunn quashed rumors of a Joker TV series on Friday, as fans hope that they could see the character return in a spin-off similar to “ The Penguin”.
“No, this is completely untrue. A Joker series has yet to be discussed and isn’t even on the horizon at this point. Sorry,” James Gunn wrote on Threads.
Gunn along with Peter Safran are co-CEOs of DC Studios. After a tumultuous journey through the DC Extended Universe that failed to match rival Marvel’s offerings both critically and commercially, Warner Bros. Entertainment turned to Gunn to spearhead their next successful endeavor.
During this time, The Batman, a standalone film separate from other related DC films, performed well at the box office, grossing over $700 million. The film, directed by Matt Reaves, also received critical acclaim, receiving an 85% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

A post-credits scene of “The Batman” revealed Barry Keoghan, who previously appeared in films like Marvel’s Eternals, Dunkirk and 2023’s Saltburn, as the new Joker.
The Marvelvision podcast, where the rumors originated, claims that a Joker TV series featuring Keoghan will connect the upcoming “The Batman Part 2” and possibly “The Batman Part 3.” This statement may stem from the belief that DC may be looking to do something similar to their current spin-off series airing on HBO, “The Penguin.”
Colin Farrel in the series will recreate his elaborate makeup style to once again play the infamous villain who stood out in “The Batman”.
The series bridges 2023’s “The Batman” and the upcoming “Batman Part 2,” which could spark rumors that a Joker series could possibly do the same.
