Early life
Jeffrey Lewis was born in 1970 in Orange County, California. He graduated from Mater Dei High School in 1988. He attended the University of Southern California and Chapman University, where he studied law and political science.
In late 2008, Ashley Jensen and Terence Beesley, who lived next door to a Los Feliz home that Lewis was renovating, obtained a restraining order against him. The dispute arose when Lewis’s deck extended beyond the property line onto Jensen and Beesley’s property.
Beesley and Jensen sued and were awarded $100,000 for the right of way. Lewis responded negatively, prompting Beesley and Jensen to seek an injunction. In 2009, the parties settled, agreeing to a $30,000 right of way and allowing the deck to be retained.
Career
Jeffrey Lewis began his career as a real estate agent after graduating from college in 1993. Before becoming a prominent real estate speculator and interior designer in the United States, he studied law and political science at USC and Chapman University.
In 2009, he founded his design firm. The following year, House Beautiful approached him to design their “Kitchen of the Year,” which was displayed at Rockefeller Center. Since 2013, he has also developed his own home products brands, including carpets, paints, doors, and tiles.
His show, “I Am Flipping Out,” premiered in 2007 and focused on Lewis’ house-flipping ventures and interior design business. The tenth season recently premiered in August 2017.
The show provides an insight into the day-to-day operations of his real estate and design firm, while also touching on his struggles with obsessive-compulsive behavior and life outside the office.
