In 2011, Candelario began his professional career with the Dominican Summer League Cubs and previously played for several lower-league teams, including the Daytona Cubs, Kane County Cougars, Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Boise Hawks, and Tennessee Smokies. He was later added to the Chicago Cubs’ 40-man roster. In his first season with the Iowa Cubs, he batted an impressive .333 in 25 games.
In 2016, Jeimer was promoted to the Chicago Cubs, replacing Coghlan, who was injured. He played in five games, batting .091, before being traded back to Iowa. Although he did not make the postseason roster, he even won his most important World Series title with the team. In 2017, the Detroit Tigers acquired Candelario from the Cubs in a trade.
