Early life
Hudson was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Darnell Donerson and Samuel Simpson on September 12, 1981. She has two siblings and began performing at the age of seven, singing in her church choir and participating in community theater.
She graduated from Dunbar Vocational High School in 1999 and then attended Langston University, but dropped out after one semester due to homesickness and dissatisfaction with the weather and enrolled in Kennedy-King College.
