The “I’m Real” singer appeared in Nevada on October 31 as part of the Kamala Harris rally, where she addressed controversial comments about Puerto Ricans made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe out at Madison Square Garden as part of Donald Trump’s rally on Sunday, October 27.

“He reminded us who he really is and how he really feels,” Lopez began. It wasn’t just Puerto Ricans who were offended that day. It’s every Latino in this country, it’s humanity and anyone of decent character.”
She then added that Trump has “consistently sought to divide us” before reiterating that she believes in “the power of Latinos” and “the power of all of our votes.”

Later in her speech, Lopez shared that she is a “proud daughter” of Puerto Rico, an island territory of the United States. She further noted that “we are Americans” and “this is our country too”, so they “must exercise our right to vote”.
“I promised myself I wouldn’t get emotional. You know what? We should be emotional. We should be sad. We should be scared and angry. We should be,” she added .
“Our pain matters. We matter. You matter. Your voice and your vote matter,” Lopez added.
Lopez’s comments came after Hinchcliffe called Puerto Rico a “floating trash island” at Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally.

She is not the only star to speak out after controversial comments. On October 30, Latin music superstar Nicky Jam, who had previously supported Trump, announced that he would no longer do so following the comments.
In a video posted to his social media account, Jam said he “never in his life” thought that a month later, “a comedian would come out criticizing and talking bad about me.” [Puerto Rico].”
Nicky added: “That is why I am renouncing my support for Donald Trump and withdrawing from any political conversation. Puerto Rico deserves respect.”
The upcoming US presidential election takes place on Tuesday, November 5.
