During an interview featuring Jennifer Lopez, fans were shocked by the interviewer’s age-related question to the singer and actress.
On December 16, TMZ released footage showing Lopez, 55, being interviewed during a screening of “Unstoppable.” Clayton Davis, Variety’s Senior Awards Editor, spoke about Lopez’s 30 years in the entertainment industry.
Davis then went on to comment that Lopez was “up there,” a slight nod to the singer’s age that didn’t sit well with some in the audience. The video shows some of her fans giggling at the comment, while others were incredulous as comments about age are considered “taboo”.
“Did he just say that?” said a fan in the back.
However, Lopez was clearly unfazed by the comment and her composure was evident. Despite the brief and awkward incident, the interview largely went well as Lopez turned things around by expressing her gratitude to her fans.
“It’s because I want to say thank you to you guys, because we’ve been through this together all this time,” she said. “It’s been a long time since you guys were here with me.”
The interviewer then asked about Lopez’s steadfast determination to continue her career.
“First of all, I don’t want to address the comment that I won’t have to do this anymore, because I don’t see a world where I don’t do this,” Lopez shared. “I wouldn’t have a life without being creative, without acting, singing, or maybe music, dancing and performing for people and entertaining. That’s why I’m here.”
