By 1979, Jerry had gathered enough money to buy The Lakers, The Kings and The Forum sports facilities for $67.5 million. In real terms, that amount is equivalent to $213 million. It was the largest acquisition of a sports franchise in history at the time.

Under Jerry’s direction, the Lakers won their first 10 NBA titles in less than a year. The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the most successful and popular franchises of all time, with a market value of over $1 billion.

Buss purchased the Sparks in 2002 when the WNBA reconfigured to allow each team to have a single owner. In 2006, he gave away the team. Buss also acquired the Los Angeles Lazers of the Major Indoor Soccer League. The Lazers also performed at The Forum.
