Jody Allen was born in Wedgwood, Seattle, Washington, on February 13, 1959, to Kenneth Sam Allen, associate director of the University of Washington Libraries, and Edna Faye Allen, a Seattle school teacher.
She is the sister of Paul G. Allen. She attended Lakeside School in 1975 and Whitman College in 1980, where she studied theater. Allen attended Washington State University, where she earned a degree in economics.

Jody Allen and his brother Paul founded Vulcan Inc. in 1986 to oversee their family’s commercial and humanitarian initiatives. She is currently vice president of First & Goal Inc., the company in charge of business operations for the Seattle Seahawks.
