Joe Alwyn recently reflected on his past relationship with Taylor Swift.
The British actor shared insights in a chat with The Guardian about his previous long-term romance with the pop star that lasted over six years.
Swift previously revealed that during their romance, Alwyn was credited as musician William Bowery on her “folklore” album.
“The Brutalist” actor contributed to several songs about “folklore,” such as “exile” and “betty,” and received songwriting credit on the next album, “Evermore “.
Responding to the interviewer’s suggestion that Alwyn might be eager to start over, he firmly stated that he was indeed over that Swift chapter of his life.
The “Kinds of Kindness” star also emphasized that even though he has moved forward, it seems like the public is still paying attention to his previous romantic relationship with the “Lover” singer.
“That’s something for someone else to do.”
“We’re talking about something that happened not too long ago in my life. So that’s for everyone else. That’s what I feel.”
When asked about the demanding nature of his recent endeavors and the impact his previous relationship with Swift had on his career, he replied, “I’ve tried to focus on controlling the What can I control?”
“And from the beginning, I tried to focus on the things that were meaningful to me: friends, family, work, of course.”
He added, “So beyond the noise, I think I did what a lot of people in the public eye do, which is just try to ignore it.”
“If you don’t, and if you let all the other stuff in, and if it starts to affect you and your behavior, then you’re living from the outside in. And then you’re pretty fucked up.” .”
Alwyn confidently expressed that he finds strength and stability in the presence of important people in his life.
“I have amazing family, friends and real things in my life; those are the things that keep me tied down. So I don’t know how else to say it, it’s just… another room.”
In June 2024, Alwyn finally opened up about the end of his relationship more than a year after their romance ended.
In an interview with The Sunday Times, the “Mary Queen of Scots” actor expressed the challenges that arose when a deeply romantic relationship that lasted more than six and a half years ended.
He said that overcoming such situations can be extremely difficult for anyone involved, adding, “What is unusual and extraordinary about this situation is that, a week later, it suddenly appear in the public domain and the outside world can participate.”
Alwyn also reflects on how personal and real experiences are brought into the artificial and “highly unrealistic” spaces of tabloids, social media and newspapers. In this space, the situation “is dissected, speculated about, distorted to the point of unrecognizability.”
“And the truth is, until the last moment, there is always a gap between what is known and what is said. I have accepted that.”
