American radio journalist DeMarco Morgan recently made headlines after temporarily replacing TJ Holmes on “GMA3” amid the latter’s cheating scandal. DeMarco was asked to replace him as co-host for the afternoon broadcasts starting December 9, 2022. DeMarco Morgan’s parents, Joetta Morgan and John Morgan, welcomed him as a baby on November 27, 1978. Some 44 years later, they must be proud that their news reporter/anchor son was tapped by ABC News to take on the next chapter in his broadcast television career. Just this November, DeMarco completed 20 years of that journey.

Joetta Morgan, DeMarco Morgan’s mother, was born and raised in Porter, Oklahoma, her hometown.
DeMarco shows her off with pride on his Instagram @demarcomorgan. He praises things like how she taught him in life that “when you’re no longer respected at the table, have the courage to stand up and walk away!” He says he’s grateful that she’s given him more than a son could ever ask for, from lessons on the playground to how to “shut them up” in the boardroom. But most importantly, he believes the love of God his mother instilled in him is what he treasures most.
Joetta Morgan, also known as Maria Morgan or Maria Ledbetter, appeared to be in her late sixties.
Joetta Morgan is retired at the time of this writing. But she spent some of her best years working in Tulsa Public Schools. And even before that, she attended Carter G. Woodson. She graduated from there in the Class of 1962.

Meet John Morgan, DeMarco Morgan’s Father
Unfortunately, DeMarco Morgan did not get to spend many years with his father, John Morgan. However, DeMarco is grateful to him for giving him the “first best ten years” of his life.

DeMarco was just 10 years old when his father passed away. Since then, John has never stopped honoring his memory. Every Father’s Day, he and his mother pray for him to rest in peace.
John Morgan was probably in his thirties when he died, living next to 10-year-old DeMarco and others.
To this day, it is unknown what career John Morgan pursued before his death. It is unclear whether DeMarco followed in his father’s footsteps when he attended Jackson State University, a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in Mississippi.
In 2001, while still in college, Morgan became the only African American to be ranked in Scripps Howard’s list of top 10 college journalists in the nation.

Sadly, one of them, Tony, followed his father into death at the age of 53 on November 18, 2022. Tony’s brother, DeMarco, was the first to share the sad news. He explained that his oldest brother, his childhood “Hero,” was found lying in bed at his Tulsa apartment. He said that his brother appeared to have gone into labor peacefully. DeMarco later wrote that he would forever be grateful for that smile, the endless jokes, the rough and tumble struggles of his childhood, the beautiful children he left behind, the love he had for their mother, and so much more.
DeMarco’s older sister, Sheree Elmore, was born on February 29, 1976. She turns 46 in 2022.
The other sister, Ajuania, turned 54 in July 2022. A native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, she even went public about her split on Facebook.
In addition to her children, DeMarco’s mother mentioned nieces Kimberly Kimmi Jackson, Orisabiyi Oyin Williams, Thompkins Tywanda, Richelle Jackson, cousins Jackie Wilkes Zeigler, Wilson Lorna, Joyce Williams and Necy Morgan, and several family members Tina Jo Hill, Ajuania Baldwin Taylor, Teresa Wallace, Tia Sherrelle and Rahya RaShaun Hackett.
