Biography and Death of John Clayton
John Clayton began covering sports as a student at Churchill Area High School. Beginning at the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 1972 training camp, he covered the team in twice-weekly newscasts in the St. Marys, Pennsylvania Daily Press.
In May 1978, John Clayton was sent to cover the Steelers’ training camp in place of Glenn Sheeley, the Press’s Steelers writer. While there, John Clayton discovered and reported a rules violation that cost the team a draft pick.
In 1995, John Clayton joined ESPN as a reporter and later added duties for a weekly radio show during the NFL offseason.
