John Pesutto, currently serving as Leader of the Opposition in Victoria, was born on 5 September 1970 in the town of Traralgon, in the Australian state of Victoria.
John Pesutto was the fourth of five children born to Antonietta Pesutto and Luigino Pesutto. His orphaned father, Luigino, had migrated to Australia in 1961 from Calabria, southern Italy, in pursuit of better opportunities in the post-war Italy. Two years later, his mother, Antonietta, who spoke no English, sailed alone on the Galileo Galilei, which arrived in Melbourne in 1963. The couple were married just days after her arrival.
In terms of education, John Pesutto attended Catholic Regional College Traralgon from 1983 to 1988. He then pursued a Bachelor of Laws / Bachelor of Commerce at the prestigious University of Melbourne.
