Sapp mentioned that Gargano appeared backstage at WWE RAW in Cleveland and was originally scheduled to appear on the show, but plans changed. Despite these changes, it’s clear that WWE creative is considering a return to the ring for Gargano.

Former NXT Champion Johnny Gargano competed in his final match on the May 15 episode of WWE RAW. During that match, he participated in a battle royal to earn a shot at the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

However, rumors began to circulate regarding Gargano’s injury, leaving uncertainty about his current status. With the WWE Summer Slam still a month away, Gargano’s status and whether he will be able to compete in the event is unclear.

What happened to Johnny Gargano?

The reason for Johnny Gargano’s absence from WWE television is a recent re-aggravation of his shoulder injury. The injury initially sidelined him in January, but he made a successful comeback and competed regularly until NXT Stand and Deliver, where he defeated Grayson Waller. It’s worth noting that Gargano competed in approximately 12 matches following his return on March 4.

Unfortunately, Gargano’s shoulder injury worsened upon his return at the Royal Rumble. By the time he faced Waller, his injury was severe enough that he could only use one arm. WWE hopes Gargano can resolve the issue through physical therapy without surgery.
