Ariel Pagtalonia Manalo, popularly known as Jose Manalo, was born in Dondo, Manila, Philippines on February 12, 1966. He was raised by his parents, Renato Manalo and Anita Manalo, and has four siblings whose names are unknown.
He completed his primary education at Magat Salamat Primary School and graduated from Gregorio Pecto High School.
