Josephine Langford was born in Perth, Western Australia on 18 August 1997. She grew up in a riverside neighbourhood in Applecross.
Her parents were well-off and successful in their fields. Her father, Stephen Langford, worked as a flying doctor before being appointed director of medical services at the Royal Flying Doctor Service Western Operations, while her mother was also a successful paediatrician, known as Elizabeth Green.

Before her recent rise to fame, Josephine Langford was known for her flair for musical instruments. She learned to play the saxophone, violin, and piano before she became an adult.
