Early life
Born in Raleigh, North Carolina, Joshua Holt Hamilton was born on May 21, 1981. He attended Athens Drive High School, where he was a pitcher and outfielder. As he approached the 1999 MLB Draft, he became a coveted prospect and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays soon offered him a contract.
