early life
Josh O’Connor was born on May 20, 1990 in Southampton, England.
He is a British Christian.
His father, John O’Connor, was a teacher, and his mother, Emily O’Connor, was a midwife.
He is the second of three boys; his older brother is an artist, while his younger brother, Seb O’Connor, is an ecological economist and doctoral researcher.
Josh O’Connor grew up in Newbury, but when he was five his family moved to Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, where he lived throughout his formative years.
He comes from an artistic family. His grandfather John Bunting is a British sculptor, his grandmother is a ceramic artist, and his aunt Madeleine Bunting is a writer and critic.
Like his grandparents, Josh wanted to be an artist when he was a child, but unfortunately, he was not good enough, so he had to switch to being a rugby player and soon became an actor.

He also played Charlie in the short film Holding On For A Good Time. He then starred in the film Bridgend with his then girlfriend Hannah Murray. The film was a box office hit when it premiered in Copenhagen.
In 2017, he played the role of Shepherd Johnny Saxby in the British drama film God’s Own Country, directed by the famous director Francis Lee.
The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival to huge crowds and critical acclaim, and Josh O’Connor received several recognitions for his performance, including the Empire Film Award for Best New Actor and the British Independent Film Award for Best Actor.
Josh O’Connor played Peter in the 2018 episode “The Color of His Hair” of the Boys Movie 18: Heroes. In 2019, he played Marius Pommessie in the British TV adaptation of Les Misérables. He also played Jamie in Hope Gap, which premiered at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival.
