About Freedom
Freedom is the fifteenth studio album by American rock band Journey, released on July 8, 2022. It is an important album for Journey as it is the second album without founding bassist Ross Valory. He was replaced by Randy Jackson, who last joined the band on the 1986 album Raised on Radio. The album has 15 tracks, making it the longest Journey album ever, if compilation albums are not counted.
This album came quite a while after their last album, Eclipse – eleven years to be exact. It was also the first album that drummer and producer Narada Michael Walden was involved with. However, both Walden and Jackson left the band before the album was released.
While Freedom was praised for its performances and musicianship, it received mixed reviews from some critics, who disliked certain aspects of the album, including its production, mixing, and length.
Interestingly, the name “Freedom” was originally intended for another Journey album, “Raised on Radio”, which was released in 1986. However, lead singer Steve Perry decided to change it. Therefore, the name “Freedom” finally found its home on this album released many years later.
