Netflix recently released Freeridgesub program of On my block on February 2, 2023. The teen drama tells the story of Gloria, Ines, Demi, and Cameron, a group of four teenage friends who accidentally curse themselves and cause a series of terrible disasters while tinkering with a strange ancient box. The journey of the four friends is explored in the film as they work together to break the curse and get their lives back to normal.
And the actress who plays Gloria in the film is Keyla Monterroso Mejia. She is the first-generation American daughter of her parents Juan Monterroso and Chely Mejia, who are from Guatemala and Mexico. In a very short time in her burgeoning acting career, she has filled her resume with some notable work including HBO Curb your enthusiasm in the show’s 12th season.
While talking to Post On that note, she also discussed her parents in the paper. Keyla said that her parents rarely spoke English and were unfamiliar with American pop culture. “But they were the most supportive people in the world,” she told the Post, “even though they didn’t really understand what I wanted to do or why I wanted to do it.”
She said that most of her family members were hairdressers and that they hoped she would pursue a career in hairdressing. “I was the worst hairdresser ever,” Keyla said. “I apologize to anyone I cut hair for,” she added. “I was so nervous. I started sweating when I had to cut hair.” However, she left her family business behind and went on to pursue an acting career without any prior experience.
“I wanted to be an actor, but it seemed like such a far-fetched dream,” Keyla said. “Then I watched that documentary. It gave me so much motivation. I couldn’t sing or dance, but it made me feel like there was a place for me in acting — a place for people who looked like me. And it might be difficult, but it wasn’t impossible.”

Juan Monterroso is Keyla Monterroso Mejia’s father. Several nights a week, after spending 12 hours at the barbershop, Juan would drive Mejia to Los Angeles to meet her acting coach, Gloria Garayua, and back. Even though she had arranged everything herself, she was still too nervous to go in the first time they went.
“My dad and I had an argument outside. [Garayua’s] this place,” Mejia said. Post“I said, ‘No, I can’t go up the door, I’m too scared.’ So my dad said, ‘We’re not here to do anything. I’ll do it.’ He knocked on this woman’s door and said, ‘This is my daughter. She wants to be an actress. Can you help her?’”
Her father, Mejia, said he was proud of his daughter but fell asleep watching her first episode of “Curb” because he didn’t really understand the plot.
Some reports on the web suggest that Juan Monterroso was born in October 1978. He is currently 44 years old.
Juan Monterroso works as a barber.
