Early life
Juan Alberto “Juancho” Hernangómez Geuer was born on September 28, 1995 in Madrid, Spain, to Guillermo Hernangòmez Heredero, a former Spanish basketball player who played for Real Madrid and Estudiantes.
His mother is Margarita Geuer Draeger, an international basketball player who won the European Championship with Spain in 1993. He has two siblings. Their names are Willy, who currently plays for the New Orleans Pelicans and formerly for Real Madrid, and Andrea, who currently plays for the Estudiantes youth team.
Career
Hernangómez began his basketball career in 2007, playing for the youth teams of CB Las Rozas and then Real Madrid before joining Club Baloncesto Majadahonda. Hernangómez signed his first professional contract with CB Estudiantes in 2012.
He played for their second team until 2014 when he was moved to the first team. In the 2016 NBA draft, the Denver Nuggets selected Hernangómez as the 15th overall pick. With the Nuggets, he agreed to sign a rookie salary contract.
He was a member of the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the NBA Development League in 2017. In a game against the Golden State Warriors, he helped the Nuggets set an NBA record by making 24 three-pointers.
Hernangómez was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2020. In 2020, he re-signed with the Timberwolves to a three-year contract. The Minnesota Timberwolves traded him to the Boston Celtics in 2021.
