Judge in YSL trial apologizes for saying N-word in court

Judge Paige Reese Whitaker apologized for using the n-word while reading the evidence.

In a clip posted to Instagram from the courtroom, Whitaker shared that she hoped she did not offend anyone with her comments and that she was simply reading as her eyes followed.

“Before lunch break, we went through a bunch of Instagram chats and I read one out loud, basically saying it as my eyes were scrolling through it for the first time,” she said.

Whitaker noted that she later read the racial slur, but hoped that it “didn’t offend anyone.”

“It certainly wasn’t meant to be offensive. I didn’t use that word and I should have considered it before saying it out loud,” she said.

“I want to formally apologize for that,” Whitaker concluded before turning his attention back to the case.

In the clip of her saying the word, the judge can be heard reading the line: “I have to do it because this n— is missing.”
