Early life

Julia Haart was born in Moscow, Russia on April 11, 1971 but moved to New York City when she was three years old. By age 11, Haart moved to Monsey, one of New York’s largest Orthodox communities.

Haart attended Bais Yakov Academy in Brooklyn, New York. She developed an early interest in fashion design and, after reading fashion magazines, learned to sew at the age of 16. When she was 18, Haart changed her name to Talia.

Haart was the eldest of eight children, one of whom died in a car accident when he was five years old. Only one of her siblings, Hannah, has a relationship with her; her parents and other siblings stopped speaking to her after she left her Orthodox community.

Haart’s shoe company, Julia Haart Inc., was founded in 2013. She wanted to create a line of footwear that combined fashion and comfort for the wearer. Haart was appointed creative director of La Perla in 2016 for her work on accessories collections.

She designed a “ready-to-wear collection” for La Perla, which was a huge success for the company. Haart met Silvio Scaglia, an Italian telecommunications magnate, while working for the company. Scaglia paid $69 million for La Perla in 2013.
