Julie Benz (born May 1, 1972) is an American actress and television personality who was a figure skater before giving up the sport to pursue an acting career.
She started out in local theatre and moved into film with small roles before making her television debut in the TV series Hi Honey, I’m Home.
Before she was cast in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, she had appeared in several TV series. In 1996, Julie Benz auditioned for the lead role in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but ended up playing only a supporting role. Due to her outstanding acting skills, her role was extended for a few more episodes. This was the beginning of her successful career and brought her to the limelight.

Early life and education
Julie Benz was born on May 1, 1972 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Murrysville.
Her parents are George Benz (father) and Joanne Benz (mother). She also has an older sister named Jennifer Benz and a younger brother named Jeffrey Benz.
When she was two, her family moved to Murrysville. She began skating at age three. In 1988, she and her skating partner, David Schilling, placed 13th at the U.S. Junior Ice Dance Championships.
At age 14, she suffered a stress fracture in her right leg, forcing her to stop skating. Julie Benz’s figure skating career ended in 1989, so she began participating in local theater performances.
She had a role in the drama Street Legal. Her film debut was in the “Black Cat” segment of the Dario Argento/George A. Romero horror film The Evil Eyes (1990).
After graduating from Franklin Area High School in 1990, Benz attended New York University to study acting.
