Kacey Musgraves responds to Texas backlash with $10K donation and apology

Kacey Musgraves decided to donate a significant amount of money to a scholarship fund in Golden, Texas, after some controversy surrounding her comments about her hometown.

Facing criticism for saying that Golden was not an appropriate place for fans to “cheer” at a recent show in Canada, the 36-year-old musician took positive steps to mend his relationship with the community.

Musgraves reportedly donated $10,000 to the Alba-Golden Seniors Scholarship Fund as a gesture of goodwill.

Alongside her contribution, she also shared an apology on her Instagram Story for her comment, explaining that it was just an “ironic joke, not serious at all”.

She said on the platform, according to AceShowbiz, “However, the reality is that. I cherish my homeland. It is very sacred to me. Sometimes there is a difficult dichotomy when it comes to being a Texans are very proud while also not conforming to all views there.”

“Regardless,” she added, “I will always have Texas and the grit it gives me in my heart.”

In her recent statement, the “Happy & Sad” singer provided further insight into her intentions when she described Golden, Texas, as “not much to clap about.”

“Most people would be shocked to see that the place I come from is so small that there aren’t any traffic lights,” Musgraves said in another Instagram Story. “There’s not even a real grocery store. It’s too small for a school or even a residential sign.”

She continued, “There’s not much to clap for meaning – there’s not much there. There’s not much to clap for meaning – hell, you blink and miss it. It’s a place which at first glance doesn’t seem too special until you stop to learn a spell and spend some time there.”
