Kannada icon Dwarf, Master of Laughter, passes at 81

Bengaluru: The world of Kannada cinema is in mourning as it bids farewell to beloved actor, director and producer Dwarakish, who passed away peacefully at the age of 81 in the early hours of Tuesday at his home in the Electric City death.

Dwarakish, born on August 19, 1942, in Hunsur, Mysuru district, is affectionately celebrated for his comedic genius that dazzled audiences across Karnataka.

According to people from the film crew, the revered actor complained of shortness of breath on Monday night, drifting gently in his sleep. Although age-related diseases are believed to be the cause, official confirmation remains to be seen.

Plans for the public to view his remains are still being made, pending the family’s decision.

Starting his film journey in 1964 as a comedy talent, Dwarakish quickly diversified into film production and direction. His first production effort, Mayor Mutthannastarring Dr. Rajkumar, marked the beginning of a prolific career in which he produced nearly 48 films and directed nearly 19.

Dwarakish’s close friendship with the late Dr. Vishnuvardhan remains legendary. Their collaboration gave birth to unforgettable titles such as Singaporenalli Raja Kulla, Kalla KullaAnd Apthamitrathis was their last collaboration in 2004.

Among his timeless creations as producer and director are revered classics such as Bhagyavantharu, Guru Shishyaru, Nee Bareda Kadambari, Africadallo Sheela, Dance Raja Dance, and obsession Apthamitra.
