Kanye West reveals why he didn’t admit to drinking during anti-Semitic speech in 2022

In a new interview published in 2022, Kanye West admitted that his previous anti-Semitic comments were under the influence of alcohol.

In an episode of Candace Owens’ podcast “Candace,” released Wednesday but filmed two years ago, West revealed that he was under the influence of alcohol when he posted an extremely offensive statement on X, formerly Twitter, in October 2022, resulting in significant financial losses for the artist.

The confession comes as he reflects on the controversial tweet he posted at the time, shedding light on the impact alcohol had on his actions and the ensuing consequences.

“I was definitely drinking when I tweeted about the ‘dead devil,'” the “Donda” hitmaker told Owens.

“You know who I drink? Hennessy. Hennessy. It turns us gray. Literally, the devil comes,” West declared.

When asked why he didn’t reveal his drunken state sooner, West replied: “Because it makes people forget what I said or what I was about to do.”

West said “sometimes the truth comes out”, but he feared revealing his drinking would cause others to “discredit” him.

In a now-deleted tweet, originally posted in October 2022, West wrote, “I’m a little sleepy tonight but when I wake up I’m gonna die for the number 3 about JEWS,” apparently referring to the US military’s defense readiness system Defcon.

“The funny thing is, I can’t actually be anti-Semitic because black people are actually Jews. You guys have been teasing me and trying to boycott anyone who opposes your agenda,” he continued.

Following a wave of criticism and the suspension of his X account, Adidas ended its partnership with West and his Yeezy brand, while Gap decided to stop selling products associated with him during that time.

West repeatedly linked his misbehavior to alcohol, and the habit continued.

During his speech at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, the “All of the Lights” rapper brought up interrupting Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the 2009 VMAs. He claimed that alcohol influenced his actions that night.

When accepting the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, West said: “If I had to do it all over again, what would I do?”

“Would I have worn a leather jacket? Would I have drunk half a bottle of Hennessy and given the rest to the audience…?” he continued. “After that night, the stage was gone, but the impact it had on people remained.”
