Early life and education
Katie Hill was born in Abilene, Texas, United States, on August 25, 1987. She is the daughter of Rachel Stevenson and Mike Hill. She has a younger brother named Daniel Brett Bennett, born later.
She was named Katherine Lauren Hill at birth. Her father was a police lieutenant, and her mother was a licensed local nurse.
She attended Santa Clarita Valley High School before transferring to California State University. She holds a BA in English as well as a Master’s in Public Administration.
Career
Katie Hill began her career as a policy advocate for People Assisting the Homeless (PATH), a California-based non-profit organization.
Under her leadership, the organization grew to become one of the largest nonprofit housing providers in California. She voted in favor of a ballot initiative to provide money for homeless people in Los Angeles. She was later elected as Co-Leader of the 116th Congress.
Katie Hill first entered politics in 2017, when she announced her candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives in her home district. Although she had held the position since 2014, she ran against Steve Knight in California’s 25th congressional district.
She ran for president on November 6, 2018, against Republican Representative Steve Knight. She won the election after being endorsed by former US President Barack Obama. The Oversight Committee endorsed Katie Hill’s election and she was later appointed vice chair.
Katie Hill’s main concerns throughout her political campaigns have been health care and empowering the middle class through affordable housing and increased incomes. She has run campaigns that do not accept large donations to spread the message that politics can be for anyone.
She also believes in immigration reform while working to end illegal drug trafficking and crime along the southern border. She supports building a physical barrier along some parts of the border.
