Early life

Katie Nicholl was born in Buckinghamshire, UK and attended a small private girls’ school. She has two older brothers. She was born in 1978. At the age of 12, she entered the national diving championships and became the county under-16 champion.

During her teenage years, Katie Nicholl spent a lot of time with her friends at school, but she never allowed herself to be distracted from her studies by partying or dating – which was quite unusual because at that age, teenagers were usually preoccupied with boyfriends.

She then joined ITN as a news correspondent for ITV News, where she spent five years covering major events around the world, including the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the US presidential elections and natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina.

In 2009 she became chief foreign correspondent at The Mail on Sunday, where she remains today, covering world events.

Katie Nicholl is also one of two rotating guest presenters on Channel 5’s Sunrise Breakfast show every Monday to Friday alongside her husband, Dan Walker, who is also her colleague at The Mail on Sunday, serving as the paper’s award-winning sports editor.
