She is renowned for her influence on the pop sound and style of the 2010s. Pursuing a career in gospel music at 16, the American talent released her commercially unsuccessful debut album titled Katy Hudson in 2001 under Red Hill Records.
However, Katy Perry rose to fame with her second album and major-label debut, One of the Boys, in 2008. She is the first artist to have multiple videos reach one billion views on YouTube.
Her song titled Witness featured an electropop sound with themes of liberation and a political subtext, whereas another song titled Smile featured themes of motherhood and self-help.

Early Life
Katy Perry was born on October 25, 1984, in the remote city of Santa Barbara, California, United States. She was born to Pentecostal pastors Keith Hudson (father) and Mary Christine (mother).
Katy Perry has English, Irish, German, and Portuguese ancestry. Through her mother, she is a niece of a renowned film director called Frank Perry. She has a younger brother named David Hudson, a singer, and an older sister named Angela Hudson.
From ages 3 to 11, Katy Perry often moved across the country as her parents mounted churches before settling in Santa Barbara. Her family struggled financially, sometimes using food stamps and eating food from the food bank, which fed the congregation at Katy Perry‘s parents’ church.
