Gene Hopps Overview
Keane are a popular British alternative rock band that originated in Battle, East Sussex and formed in 1995. Original members of the band Tom Chaplin, Tim Rice-Oxley, Richard Hughes and Dominic Scott met while attending Tonbridge School. The line-up has evolved over the years and current members include Tom Chaplin on vocals and playing various instruments, and Tim Rice-Oxley on piano, synthesizers, bass guitar and backing vocals, with Richard Hughes on drums, percussion and instrumentation. Backing vocals, Jesse Quinn on bass guitar, acoustic/electric guitar and backing vocals. One of the founding members, Dominic Scott, left the band in 2001.
In 2004, Keane released his debut album, Hopes and Fears, to widespread international recognition. Not only did the album top the UK charts, it also won them the 2005 BRIT Award for Best British Album. It became one of the best-selling albums in the UK in 2004 and is considered one of the best-selling albums in UK chart history. Their subsequent albums, including Under the Iron Sea, Perfect Symmetry and Strangeland, were also successful, with Strangeland reaching number one on the UK album charts.
After releasing the compilation album The Best of Keane in 2013, the band returned for a period of time with new music, including 2019’s fifth studio album Cause and Effect. Keane is known for their unique use of keyboards as the lead instrument, distinguishing them from many other rock bands.
