Early life

Kelis Rogers-Mora was born on August 21, 1979 on Manhattan’s Upper Westside to Kenneth, a jazz musician and Pentecostal pastor who was formerly a professor at Wesleyan University, and Eveliss, a fashion designer.

Kelis has three siblings. Kelis’ mother encouraged her to pursue a singing career. She was kicked out of her parents’ house at the age of 16 because of her bad behavior when she occasionally argued with her mother.
