Kelly Clarkson’s children, River Rose, 10, and Remington, 8, from her previous marriage to Brandon Blackstock, don’t want to see their mother return to the dating world.
During a recent appearance on KOST 103.5, the former American Idol winner revealed: “Neither of my children [into it and] they kept bringing it up, ‘Please, we don’t want you with anyone else.'”
“They’re so young that it’s hard to imagine their mother with anyone other than their father,” she continued.
“I expressed it like, ‘Hey, I love you, but mommy needs to be loved, too,'” Clarkson quipped.
“I’m not looking for it. I’m not looking for a ‘friend’ for Christmas, but I think the hope of that is beautiful and magical and the imagination station is a wonderful thing,” the singer added .
After splitting from Blackstock in 2020, the Emmy-winning host made it clear that she was not interested in pursuing a new romantic relationship at this time.
“I feel like I’m a magnet for people who are ready right away and want exclusivity,” she said. “It’s not that I want to kiss a lot of people, but I’m very non-committal right now… and I have young children.”
She added: “My daughter is the same, I explained to her, ‘When I’m ready, it’s okay. You’re allowed to do it’.”
For now, Clarkson’s top priority is making sure her young children settle into their new routine in New York, where she’s relocating her eponymous talk show.
In an interview with PEOPLE magazine, she explained: “To be honest, I’ve been very depressed for the last three years – and maybe a little bit before that, if I’m being honest. I think I’m really need change.”
She continued: “I also need it for me and my family. My children are thriving here. We are living so much better and we need a fresh start.”
Clarkson took on the role of primary caregiver for River Rose and Remington, leading their family to move to the big city.
The “Since U Been Gone” singer and Blackstock, who served as her music manager, married in 2013 and called it quits in 2020. Their divorce was finalized two years later after they went through Prolonged disputes over child custody and common property.
