Kholeka Gcaleka completed primary school in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
She attended Little Flower Secondary School in Ixopo. She obtained her law degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. She is currently pursuing an LLM in Commercial Law at the University of Johannesburg.
Career
Kholeka Gcaleka was officially admitted as a barrister of the High Court in 2006. She boasts over fourteen years of experience as a barrister and advocate.
She has served in various capacities including Special Counsel and Senior State Attorney and as Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions. She is an Accredited Solicitor of the High Court of South Africa and a former national president of the State Bar Association of South Africa.
She is a member of the Black Lawyers Association and is currently a Director at Khonconsulting. She served as a special advisor to Malusi Gigaba during his tenure as minister of home affairs and finance.
She was nominated by Attorney General Adele Barnard and later appointed as deputy public defender to replace Attorney General Kevin Malunga after his term ended. She was one of eight nominees and she earned the position due to her extensive experience in government through a number of positions she has held throughout her career.
Kholeka Gcaleka’s years of dedicated service and hard work finally paid off and she was successful after a grueling selection process in Parliament. Her fellow nominees included Moshoeshoe Toba, Shadrack Nkuna, Noxolo Mbangeni, Lwasi Phumelela Kubukeli and Puleng Matshelo.
Personal life
Kholeka Gcaleka is unmarried and has no children. Her vision is to use her legal knowledge to advance good governance, ethics, sound legal practice and strategic advice and practice.
She is a Christian and a firm believer in constitutionalism and accountability. She is fluent in five languages including English, isiZulu, Setswana, Sesotho, Afrikaans.
