Mikayla Victoria Simpson (born February 16, 2000) is a multi-talented Jamaican singer, songwriter and rapper. The musical artist, known by her stage name Koffee, is also a DJ and guitarist.
She released her debut single Burning in 2017 and released her debut project Rapture in 2019.
Rapture won Best Reggae Album at the 62nd Grammy Awards. Her debut album, Gifted, was released in March 2022.

Early life
Koffee was born on February 16, 2000 in Spanish Town, Jamaica. Her birth certificate is registered as Mikayla Victoria Simpson. Her mother’s name is Jo-Anne Williams.
Koffee’s early musical influences may have stemmed from her mother’s religious background. Jo-Anne Williams was a Catholic and attended the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Jo-Anne Williams worked with the Ministry of Health and was an occasional actress.
Koffee started singing when she joined her local church choir. By the age of twelve, she had taught herself how to play the guitar. The guitar she practiced on was borrowed from a friend. She also began writing lyrics and was inspired by listening to reggae singer, Protoje.

Koffee completed his primary schooling at a prestigious school in Kingston.
She is a former student of Ardenne Secondary School in St. Andrews, Kingston. She studied from Grade 1 to Grade 6 at this school.
Career
Koffee’s musical talent was brought to the fore after she posted a video of herself singing on Instagram. In 2017, she wrote and released her first single, titled Legend. The song was composed using only her voice and an acoustic guitar. Legend is a tribute to Jamaican sprint superstar Usain Bolt. The song increased her popularity worldwide because Usain Bolt reposted it on his Instagram page, making it even more viral.
That same year, Koffee released her debut single, Burning, inspired by her desire to move forward despite her initial disappointment at not being accepted into high school after graduating from high school. Burning became a worldwide hit; it spent three weeks at number one on The Foundation Radio Network’s Top 30 Reggae Songs Chart.
In December 2018, Koffee released, Raggamuffin, a song that spoke out against gun violence and government indifference to youth. In 2019, she was named one of BBC Radio 1Xtra’s “Hot For 2019” artists. She soon released the Major Lazer-produced single, Toast.
Koffee signed a recording contract with Columbia Records UK in 2018. Her first project with the label was an EP called Rapture, which was released on March 14, 2019. The music video for Throne, one of the singles from the project, was filmed in Spanish Town and takes viewers on a tour of her hometown. The music video premiered on The Fader on January 22, 2022.
She released her first crossover collaboration single, W, in 2019. The song features Hip Hop artist Gunna. Additionally, in 2019, Tory Lonez remixed Koffee’s song Toast, as part of his international Fargo Project.
Koffee’s EP, Koffee, won Best Reggae Album at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards. She was 19 when she won the award, making her the youngest person and only woman to win in the category. In 2020, she released two hit songs, Lockdown and Pressure. She was featured on John Legend’s single Don’t Walk Away.
She released her much-anticipated debut album, Gifted, on March 25, 2022. The album has received positive reviews so far. The singles on Gifted talk about perseverance and overcoming hardships. The 10-track project is a mix of dancehall reggae, reggae fusion, pop, and R&B.
Gifted is an amazing work of art created by Koffee and other top musicians. Artists like Kendrick Lamar, Lionel Richie, and Ryan Bailey all have music credits for the project.
