Lady Gaga is facing backlash from animal rights advocates for claiming she bought a new dog instead of adopting one.
PETA, which stands for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, called the “A Star Is Born” actress a “bitch” for allegedly purchasing the French bulldog puppy she unveiled earlier this month through a breeder. Lady Gaga has yet to reveal whether she purchased or adopted her new puppy.
After learning about the rumors, PETA criticized Lady Gaga by designing a special sweatshirt that boldly declared “what kind of person she is.”
Photos obtained by Radar Online from PETA show the sweatshirt with the words “I’m an Asshole! I Bought a Dog” on the front. Text on the back of the sweatshirt reads “Adopt! Don’t Shop” followed by the organization’s name.
“Animal shelters are overwhelmed with dogs of all shapes, sizes and breeds in desperate need of loving homes, but Lady Gaga seems too shallow to care,” PETA senior vice president Lisa Lange said in a statement to the organization.
“There are a million reasons to adopt rather than buy, and PETA urges everyone to stop being a jerk and stop putting money into the pockets of breeders who are ruining the chances of homeless animals finding families,” she added.
In addition to highlighting the abundance of “amazing” animals at animal shelters, PETA also draws attention to the problem of overpopulation in purebred animals.
They also note that there are approximately 70 million dogs and cats without homes in the United States, highlighting the urgent need for breeders to end overbreeding practices and enforce strict spay/neuter regulations to address this ongoing crisis.
Additionally, PETA highlights breeding practices that focus on specific physical traits in French bulldogs, which can potentially lead to significant health problems in the long run.
The “Just Dance” singer has also faced criticism over the years for wearing a meat dress to the MTV Video Music Awards and wearing fur.

In a TikTok video posted on August 21, the 38-year-old “Poker Face” hitmaker shared the latest news about her life, set to the tune of her new song with Bruno Mars, “Die With a Smile.”
Lady Gaga exudes natural glamour in the clip as she hugs a new black French bulldog.
“If the world is about to end, I want to be by your side,” she lip-syncs in the video.
News of Lady Gaga’s new dog comes after a 2021 robbery, kidnapping and shooting that left her dog walker seriously injured. The singer’s two beloved French bulldogs, Koji and Gustav, were tragically stolen.
Authorities later arrested five individuals believed to be involved in both the shooting and the dog theft.
Among the suspects was James Howard Jackson, who later pleaded no contest to charges of attempted murder causing serious injury.
