The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has responded to a tweet by popular influencer Suraj Oyewale, also known as SirJarus, in which he admitted to assaulting his wife. The DSVA, which is committed to preventing and addressing domestic and sexual violence, has highlighted the gravity of the situation.
SirJarus’ tweet, which has since been deleted, sparked a backlash on social media, prompting the DSVA to step in. The agency reiterated that any form of domestic violence is unacceptable and that the Lagos State Government maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards it.
In its official statement, DSVA said, “Our attention has been drawn to a tweet by @SirJarus. As the Statutory Authority in Lagos State dedicated to preventing and responding to domestic and sexual violence, we take this matter very seriously. Domestic violence in any form is unacceptable and the Lagos State Government maintains a zero tolerance stance towards it.“ .
The agency has referred the case to the Lagos State Police Command for further investigation, stressing its commitment to resolving such matters quickly and effectively.
Public reaction to SirJarus’ confession was mixed. Some social media users condemned his actions and called for legal consequences, while others criticized the DSVA’s intervention and suggested that the matter should be resolved privately.
