Lakiha Spicer’s father, Shamsud-Din Ali, her mother, Faridah Ali, also known as ‘Rita Spicer’, and several others were charged with operating and participating in an extortion enterprise to obtain money and property through extortion and bribery schemes in September 2004.
After the trial, she was sentenced to house arrest and four years of probation, while her father remained in prison until 2013 and her mother was sentenced to more than a year in prison.
In 2008, she was sent to federal prison to serve six months after being convicted of fraud and conspiracy to receive $71,000 from her father’s company to teach courses at sister school Clara Muhammad for courses that were never taught.
In 2013, she filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles, claiming that she had received emails from an unidentified person threatening her and her family’s safety over false accusations.
