Early life
Lamar Odom was born on November 6, 1979 in South Jamaica, Queens, New York and is the son of Joe Odom and Cathy Mercer. Growing up, Odom encountered many difficulties. He lost his mother to colon cancer when he was 12 years old.
His father was a drug addict and frequently used heroin. Mildred, his grandmother, raised him. Odom bounced around three high schools and eventually became a basketball star at his high school. He was awarded Marching Player of the Year, among other notable honors.
