Lynn played college baseball and won the Central Region championship in the Little League World Series. He accepted scholarship offers from colleges and chose the University of Mississippi, where he was highly regarded for his achievements on the field.

After the deal closed with the Cardinals, he signed a 1-year contract with the Twins in 207, where he had a moderate season.
