In an interview with University of Mary WashingtonAnissa Felix shared that her parents, Larry and Wendy Felix, moved from Brooklyn, NY to Virginia in the 1980s. Anissa was not yet born at the time. They returned to New York frequently, along with their children. When her father thought Felix was old enough, he showed her how to get around the city.

Anissa has always been a performer, and by the time she was 21, she had been in at least 30 shows.
