Early life

Larry Gaaga is a proud Igbo man, both his parents hailing from the Southeastern region of the country.

He hails from Abia State, nicknamed God’s Own State. He was born in the southeast to Mr. and Mrs. Ndianefo and spent his formative years in Umuahia, the capital.

This is where Ndianefo’s rural home is located. When Larry Gaaga grew up, he moved to Lagos to pursue his dream of studying.

His love of music can be traced back to his days as an active member of the church choir, where he served from his early teens to his late teens. While in the choir, he learned to play the drums, keyboards, and guitar and became an expert at it. So it was no surprise to his close friends when he became interested in music production.

He began his apprenticeship under an older friend and in a short time, he mastered the craft and began composing music for emerging artists in Southern Nigeria.

Although he had to learn music production, Larry Gaaga didn’t need the same help with songwriting. He was a talented musician. He began showing off his talent in high school by writing songs for his aspiring musician friends and his church choir. Over the years, he has honed his talent so well that he has collaborated with some of the biggest artists in the world.

Additionally, as a college student, Larry Gaaga became interested in the music business and managed a number of emerging artists. Unfortunately, none of these artists were able to make a big break in the industry.

Larry Gaaga is a college graduate and holds a degree from the prestigious University of Lagos.

Before entering university, he obtained his Secondary School Certificate and West African School Certificate from good primary and secondary schools.

Career

After leaving college, Larry Gaaga decided to take a break from his music career and entered the corporate world. He started out as an entrepreneur and started running a string of small businesses in the city. Despite his success in his new ventures, there was still a void in his heart as he was not satisfied.

He wanted to do music. Leaving his business in the hands of trustworthy people, he decided to try his hand at music again. He returned to the industry by taking on the role of CEO of YSG Entertainment. That was in 2012. The label is responsible for managing rapper Vector.

While Larry Gaaga held this job, he built a name for himself as a great music executive and got to know all the influential people in the industry. After serving the company diligently for five years, he decided to leave and start his own record label. Gaaga Muzik was founded in 2017. While still working at YSG Entertainment, he collaborated with Vector on the single Get Down.

Shortly after founding his record label, Larry shook up the industry with the release of his hit single, Gaga Shuffle, featuring 2Baba. The song was widely accepted by Afrobeats fans and was praised for months after its release. The single became an anthem as fans imitated Larry’s signature dance move. The dance move was showcased in the song’s music video, directed by talented cinematographers, Unlimited LA.

Buoyed by the success of his official debut single, Larry worked harder in 2018 and released more music for his fans. He released songs like Doe featuring Davido; Wonderful featuring Wande Coal and Sarkodie; and Baba Nla featuring Burna Boy, 2Baba and D’banj.

In 2019, he and 2Baba teamed up again to release the party track Iworiwo, which topped the charts for months. Along with Peruzzi and 2Baba, he was featured on Slimcase’s single Azaman. His biggest breakthrough of the year came when he signed a songwriting and production deal with international music company Universal Music Group. Under his contract with the company, he had the opportunity to work on the soundtracks of films such as Living In Bondage: Breaking Free, Nneka The Pretty Serpent and Rattle Snake.

His music video for Low, featuring Wizkid, has garnered over eleven million views on YouTube. The song was one of his biggest hits of 2019.

He is one of the judges on the upcoming reality TV show, The Next Eagle. His fellow judges are DJ Lambo and Magnito Freshout.
