Early life and career
Lauren Boebert was born on December 15, 1986 in Florida. She moved to Montebello near Denver, Colorado, and then to Aurora, Colorado before settling permanently in Rifle, Colorado.
Her family lived on welfare when she was young and had to drop out of high school to take care of her in 2004 and get her GED in 2020. Boebert claims she was raised in a Democratic household.
Her mother was registered to vote in Colorado as a Republican from 2001 to 2013 and as a Democrat from 2015 to 2020. After leaving high school, Boebert took a job as an assistant manager at a McDonald’s in Rifle.
She then took a job as a pipe fitter in 2007 as part of a crew that built and maintained pipelines and pump stations. In 2013, Boebert opened a restaurant called Shooters Grill in Rifle and encouraged restaurant staff to carry guns.
She also owned another restaurant called Smokehouse 1776 and Putters on Rifle Creek Golf Course, which she sold in 2016. Her Shooters Grill lost about $400,000 in 2019 and 2020.
Congress voting
In September 2019, Boebert confronted Beto O’Rourke, the Democratic candidate for the presidential primary, at an Aurora town meeting when he introduced a ban on AR-15s.
She also protested other meetings about a gun ban. She also organized a ‘We Will Not Comply!’ protest against allowing guns to be taken away from people who are a threat.
Several far-right organizations attended the rally. She challenged incumbent Rep. Scott Tipton in the election for Colorado’s 3rd congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Boebert has been a vocal opponent of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, positioning herself as a conservative spokesperson for the progressive establishment. She is also known for her support of the QAnon conspiracy theory, which she has repeatedly denied.
In 2020, Boebert won the Republican nomination, gaining much attention from political commentators and national attention. She later suggested that the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee should be disqualified.
Essentially promoting QAnon conspiracy theories, she became the first primary candidate to run for US representative in Colorado in 48 years and pledged to join the Freedom Caucus upon taking office.
2020 National Assembly Election
Boebert won the 2020 election when she was able to gain strong support in the traditionally conservative state of Western Colorado and the San Luis Valley, while still retaining enough Republican votes in the liberal-leaning Pueblo.
However, her campaign was protest and called for independence, and won by a landslide. She reimbursed herself for $22,259 in expenses for her campaign mileage, but ethics experts say the figure is questionable.
Boebert was caught using re-election campaign funds for personal expenses and claimed they were mistakenly transferred to a campaign account. After Boebert was sworn into Congress, she was assigned to two House committees.
They are the Budget Committee and the Natural Resources Committee serving Native Americans and Water, Oceans, and Wildlife. She also serves on the House Republican Conference.
She belongs to the Second Amendment Caucus, which promotes the right to bear arms. Many sources have said she is far-right, but she has consistently denied that label. Boebert has compared the Capitol attack to the American Revolutionary War in 1776.
She told people to remember the next 48 hours. She also objected to Arizona’s vote in the Electoral College by declaring it illegal because it changed voter registration laws.
She was accused by Democratic politicians in Colorado of helping to incite violence that led to the storming of the Capitol, and even called the rioters in the attack Black Lives Matter.
